PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
